Hello Julian. Can you introduce yourself ?
My name is Julien Frering, I am 26 years old, I live in the South of France and have been a Takoon ambassador for 5 years now.
Can you tell us about your trip to Portugal?
I left the South of France in mid-July with my van, passing through a few spots in Brittany and the Landes. Towards the end of July I arrived in the north of Portugal, that's where the trip really started. I went down the coast, passing through the best known spots for both surfing and kitesurfing.
The California is your first Tiki?
No it's my second tiki. I also have the Tiki Classic 210 since 2018
What is the difference between the Classic and the California?
For me the classic 210 is the most versatile between maneuverability and cruising. On the other hand, the California is really pleasant to ride with its maneuverability and softness.
What are the best wave conditions for the California?
I would say small soft waves that unroll for a long time, just to make the most of the smoothness of the glide and bring it closer to the feeling of a longboard.
What is the biggest wave you caught during your trip with the California?
Unfortunately this year the wave conditions in Portugal were less favorable than last year when I was able to score a good session with almost 3m in Ericeira.
This year I had a good session in Viana do Castelo with 1.5m very hollow with 30 knots. It was the first session of the Wave trip, so I was able to try the California tiki and the 5 wook V2. It was a pretty amazing session with clean waves.
Your best spots for Tiki in Portugal?
There are some nice lagoons to cruise in tiki like Obidos, Lagoa de Albufeira, Lagos and otherwise in wave Viana do Castelo, caparica beach. These are the two most accessible spots in waves
