Hi Eric, could you introduce yourself in a few words
I am a doctor in Science and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities and my research work focuses on the analysis of the perceptions and sensations of riders in foils. In my previous life I was a professional athlete in Stand Up Paddle. Since I was little I have been passionate about water sports, and I have practiced surfing as well as canoeing, windsurfing, kiting and now wing.
Why are you winging?
What seduced me in the Wing, beyond the great sensations it provides, is that it allows you to sail often, and everywhere! The equipment takes up less space in the car than the windfoil, and it allows you to sail in places where it is impossible to get into the water with a kitefoil. It's the best compromise to take full advantage of my free time.
Can you tell us about the conditions you found in Fuerteventura to do Wing?
The conditions in Fuerteventura are still perfect for the Wing. What sometimes changes is the direction of the wind and the more or less big swell. During my last stay, I had northerly winds and big swells, which allowed me to take full advantage of it, even on the retreat spots.
What are the best spots in Fuerteventua?
When I go to Fuerteventura I always stay in the north of the island, and I sail between Corralejo and Cotillo. In winter the wind oscillates mainly between the East and the North-West, and the swell is often there. Between spring and summer the trade winds settle in the northeast. My favorite spots are Majanicho, and the bay of Corralejo. The bay is an exceptional spot when the swell is there. Near the beach the body of water is relatively flat, and when the swell is at the rendezvous there is vertiginous surfing to be done at Punta Elena. I like sailing at Flag Beach too, the color of the water there is exceptional.
What do you think of your new comet SW?
I find this board both accessible and efficient. With my 80kg I use the SW 4'10 as my sole board. The volume distribution allows me to float enough to take off easily in the wind, and to always be able to come back upright even if the wind drops. In flight, it has a compact shape that is forgotten.
